Lauren Melnick/Shutterstock If you missed out on the first round of cultural hype around  Game of Thrones , don't worry—a prequel is airing now and is in its second season.  House of the Dragon  is set before  Game of Thrones  began but includes many of the same fictional locations in the first series, including the capital of Westeros and the Seven Kingdoms, King's Landing. As fans of the first show know, much of King's Landing is actually shot in a real-life city for  Game of Thrones . (According to reports, most of the  King's Landing scenes  were shot on a Warner Bros. set.) Dubrovnik, Croatia has become so popular with fans of the series that it has contributed to the city becoming the European destination with some of the  worst overtourism in the world. Now, even though King's Landing might mostly exist in the set designs on some studio lot, one location not featured in either show is getting a ton of attention from GOT and HOTD fans. ...

The idyllic  string of seaside communities  on Long Island are like a siren call to vacationers looking for soft sand beaches, a bubbling social scene, opulent oceanfront mansions, and Americana pastimes like tennis and polo. But one thing that makes these  summer getaways  less than luxurious is getting there. Public transit options include crowded Amtrak trains or the Hampton Jitney bus—which, at the minimum, entails a three-to-four-hour journey, nevermind the frequent delays. And even if you have your own car or decide to rent one for the weekend, you’re dealing with the where, when, and how of it all, plus the struggle for parking once you get out east. Lummi Island may not be counted among the cool crowd of San Juan’s archipelago, but what it unjustifiably lacks in popularity points, it makes up for with its peaceful, natural refuge devoid of heavy tourist crowds. ...
